The 2015 Detroit Supercross and round twelve of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, is in the books and it was all about the Honda Red Riders. After three straight rounds of Red Bull/KTM dominance in both classes, the GEICO/Honda team fought back with a sweep of their own. In the 450SX class, Eli Tomac dominated the main event for his second win of the year, and the defending Eastern Regional 250SX Champion, Justin Bogle, scored his first main event win of ’15 in the 250SX class. Both riders were, by far, the class of their respective main events in Detroit and rode away from the field for dominant wins.

In the battle for fastest lap in Motor City, Eli Tomac returned the 450SX class back to the top spot. In Daytona and in Indianapolis, it was the 250SX class claiming the fastest laps of the night, but in Detroit, Tomac (51.967) and Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey (52.589) clicked off the top two laps of the night while pulling the trigger on the big quad through the rhythm section. For Dungey, his speed was enough to score his eleventh podium on the year and stretch his 450SX Championship lead to a massive 67 points over Honda Racing’s Trey Canard—who’s night ended with a spectacular crash and a DNQ. The third fastest 450SX lap of the night—4th overall fastest—was clocked by the third place finisher: Honda Racing’s Cole Seely (52.952).

As for who was the overall fastest 250SX rider in Detroit, that title for the second weekend in a row goes to Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin (52.809). Unfortunately for Marvin, that speed did not translate into the win. Marvin rounded the first turn around mid-pack while Justin Bogle had the start and plenty of speed—2nd fastest 250SX (53.004)—to go with it. In the end, Bogle checked out to a nine-second lead, grabbed his first win of ’15 and cut the Frenchman’s Championship points lead down to 13 points. Like in the 450SX class, the third fastest lap of the night went to the third place finisher. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy threw away a podium a week earlier in Indy with a crash, but in Detroit he held strong with the third fastest lap (53.553) and the second podium of his career.
