450SX Class: Santa Clara Stats

This will be the first-ever 450SX Class race in Levi’s Stadium and Santa Clara City, CA. This is the seventh time the 450SX Class has raced in Santa Clara County, CA , however. The city of San Jose hosted supercross races in Spartan Stadium from ’90-’95.

Levi’s Stadium is the home of the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have never hosted a supercross race in their history. The MLB’s San Francisco Giants did host races at AT&T park every year from ’03-’10, but Levi’s Stadium is not in San Francisco, but rather in Santa Clara.

The first 450SX Class race held in Santa Clara County was in San Jose City on June 16, 1990 and Jeff Stanton won on a Honda. Honda would sweep the podium for that race with Jean Michel-Bayle and Mike Kiedrowski also finishing on the podium on Honda’s.

Honda has taken up 11 of the possible 18 podium positions in San Jose supercross history, having had multiple riders representing Honda on the podium in four of the six seasons.

450SX Class: Houston Recap

Making his 25th career 450SX Class start, Cole Seely became the 59th different rider to win a 450SX Class race with his victory in Houston. The victory was also his fifth career 450SX Class podium finish.

Seely also became the 19th different rider to win his first 450SX Class race on a Honda, meaning five of the past six riders to earn their first 450SX Class victories have won it on a Honda.

Seely is the second rider to earn his first 450SX Class win in the ’15 season. Eli Tomac was the other rider to do it.

Making his 97th career 450SX Class start, Ryan Dungey finished second en route to his second career 450SX Class Championship. The runner-up finish was his 70th career 450SX Class podium and KTM’s first-ever 450SX Class Championship.

Dungey joins Chad Reed, James Stewart, Jeff Ward, and Rick Johnson as riders to win just two 450SX Class Championships.

Dungey won his first 450SX Class Championship in ’10. So there was a five year gap between his first Championship and his second one, which is the longest gap between championships in the history of supercross.

With the Championship locked up, how many more wins can Dungey earn to finish the season? He already has a career-best six 450SX Class wins on the season.

Only three riders have won the 450SX Class Championship on two brands: Jeremy McGrath (Honda and Yamaha); Stewart (Kawasaki and Yamaha); and Dungey (Suzuki and KTM).  Ricky Carmichael is the only rider to win a Championship on three brands (Kawasaki, Honda, and Suzuki).

Since ’74, the big four brands (Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki) have won all but two of the 450SX Class Championships (’75 Can-am and ’15 KTM).

Tomac finished third in Houston. It was his eighth podium of the season and 10th career 450SX Class podium.

Josh Grant finished fourth in Houston for his first top-five finish since Las Vegas ’12.  It was his best finish in a string of seven top-10 finishes in eight races.

Making his 184th career 450SX Class start, Reed earned his 150th career top-five finish with a fifth. It was Reed’s sixth top-five finish of the season.

Can Reed get on the top step again before the season is over? After earning his 150th career top-five finish in Houston he will be looking for his 151st in the form of a victory.

Andrew Short earned his ninth top-10 finish of the season with a sixth.

Davi Millsaps finished seventh place in Houston. It was his 95th career 450SX Class top-10 finish and eighth top-10 finish of the season.

Broc Tickle rode to an eighth place finish. In 55 career 450SX Class starts, Tickle has 36 top-10 finishes.

Coming back from an injury, Justin Barcia earned a ninth place finish. It was his fifth top-10 of the season in six races.

Justin Brayton rounded out the top-10 with a 10th place finish. It was his second top-10 finish of the season.

Will Jason Anderson or Blake Baggett be able to counter fellow rookie Seely’s first 450SX Class victory

250SX Class Stats: Santa Clara

This will be the first 250SX Class race held at Levi’s Stadium but the seventh 250SX Class race held in Santa Clara County, CA.

The city of San Jose hosted 250SX Class races from ’90-’95. Levi’s Stadium is in the city of Santa Clara, but both cities are in Santa Clara County.

The first 250SX Class race held in Santa Clara County was on June 16, 1990 and Buddy Auntenez won on a Suzuki.

250SX Class: Houston Recap

Cooper Webb became the 49th different rider to win a 250SX Class Championship with his victory in Houston. The win was his fifth career 250SX Class win and ninth career 250SX Class podium.

Cooper Webb in Houston – Photo Credit: Hoppenworld

Webb is the first rider to win a 250SX Class Championship on a Yamaha since Jason Lawrence in ’08. He is also the eighth different rider to win a 250SX Class Championship on a Yamaha.

Webb joins Kevin Windham, John Dowd, Ernesto Fonseca, and Lawrence as riders to win the 250SX Class Western Regional Championship on a Yamaha.

Yamaha now has 10 250SX Class Championships. Six of them have come in the Western Regional 250SX Class Championship.

Fourteen races into the 250SX Class season, KTM and Yamaha are tied with six wins apiece.

Webb has 16 career 250SX Class starts, 15 career 250SX Class top-10 finishes, 10 career 250SX Class top-five finishes, nine career 250SX Class podiums, and five career 250SX Class victories.

Three of Webb’s five career 250SX Class victories have come back-to-back-to-back the last three 250SX Class Western Regional races.

How will Webb race in the 250SX Class Western Regional finale with the Championship already locked up?

For the second straight 250SX Class Western Regional race, Shane Mcelrath has earned a runner-up finish. It was only his second career 250SX Class podium in 16 career 250SX Class starts.

McElrath is one of just three riders to have back-to-back podiums in the 250SX Class Western Regional this season. Webb and Jessy Nelson are the other two.

Malcolm Stewart earned his sixth career 250SX Class podium in his 38th career 250SX Class start. It was his third podium of the season. He now has 14 career 250SX Class top-five finishes.

With the Championship already wrapped up by Webb, will we see someone new at the top of the podium in Santa Clara? McElrath has two consecutive podiums and is trying to earn his first career 250SX Class victory. Stewart already has a victory on the season and will be looking for a second.

Aaron Plessinger earned his second best career 250SX Class finish with a fourth in Houston. He now has four top-five finishes in seven starts in his rookie season. He has five top-10 finishes in those seven races.

Alex Martin earned his third career 250SX Class top-five finish with a fifth. He now has back-to-back top-five finishes and three on the season. Martin now has 18 career 250SX Class top-10 finishes in 34 career 250SX Class starts.

Justin Hill earned his 20th career top-10 finish in now 21 career 250SX Class starts with a sixth place finish in Houston. He has six top-10 finishes this season.

Zach Osborne finished seventh place in his 37th career 250SX Class race. He now has 27 career 250SX Class top-10 finishes and is one of just two riders to have a top-10 in each Western Regional 250SX Class race this season. Webb is the only other rider to do this.

Hill and Osborne are looking to recuperate after recent bad finishes. Can they finish their seasons on a high note going into the East/West Coast shoot-out in Vegas?

Matt Biscelgia earned his second top-10 finish of the season with an eighth in Houston. He now has seven career 250SX Class top-10 finishes in his 14 career 250SX Class starts.

Chris Alldredge rode to his second career 250SX Class top-10 finish in as many races and his best career 250SX Class finish with a ninth.

Kawasaki hasn’t gone winless in a 250SX Class season since ’01. The 13 season win streak is in jeopardy this season.

Tommy Hahn earned his fourth top-10 finish of the season with a 10th place in Houston. He now has 24 career 250SX Class top-10 finishes in his 32 career 250SX Class starts.
