The 2015 Houston Supercross and round fourteen of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, saw two riders crowned Champion: Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey (450SX) and Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb (250SX West). In the 450SX and 250SX classes, Dungey and Webb needed podium spots to secure their respective championships, and with Dungey finishing second to Honda Racing’s Cole Seely and Webb winning the 250SX main event, both finished their job early in 2015. Dungey clinched his second career 450SX Championship three rounds early while Webb clinched his first-ever Western Regional 250SX Championship at the penultimate round of his series. Both riders have been extremely dominant with Dungey have six main event wins on the year and Webb winning five. Next stop for both riders will be a victory lap at the Santa Clara SX this weekend.

In the battle for fastest lap in Houston, Cole Seely (46.430) was by far the man in the 450SX class. Not only would Seely get the fastest 450SX lap for the first time in his young 450 career, but he also put his first 450SX main event win in the history books as well. Cole was on another level in Houston, and with Dungey buried deep in the field off the start, the #14 used that speed to check out to a twelve-second lead. While Cole ran away up front, Dungey could only record the 8th (47.809) fastest lap, but the #5 used his consistent laps to charge all the way back to finish second on the night. The second (47.158) and third (47.529) fastest laps were turned in by rookie phenoms Rockstar/Husqvarana’s Jason Anderson and Yoshimura/Suzuki’s Blake Baggett. Although Anderson and Baggett were not able to join their fellow rookie Seely on the podium, the 450SX class looks healthy for 2016 with rookies recording the three fastest laps on the night.

As for who was the overall fastest 250SX rider in Houston, that title went to Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb (47.438). Webb has won five of the last six main events and is officially on another level than the rest of the 250SX Western Regional riders. The second (47.597) and third (47.719) fastest laps of the night in the 250SX class were recorded by the third—Malcolm Stewart—and second—Shane McElrath—place finishers. Both had the speed to contend with Webb, but neither had what it would take to stay with the #17 for fifteen laps.
