The 2015 Budds Creek National and the sixth round of the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship was blasted by Mother Nature on Saturday. After rain pelted the Mechanicsville, Maryland circuit all morning and the final 450MX moto of the day was delayed due to high winds, lightning and even tornado warnings, it was JGRMX/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia getting his first ever 450MX overall win with a 3-1 score and Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin getting his third-straight overall win of 2015 with a 7-1 score.

In the fastest lap time battle at round six, it was Ryan Dungey recording the fastest lap of the day (2:05.786) for the second time in 2015. The second fastest lap was laid down by RCH/Soaring Eagle/Suzuki’s Ken Roczen, but neither Roczen nor Dungey were consistent enough to land on the podium at round six. The rain progressively got worse all day long, so all the fastest overall 450MX laps were clocked in the opening motos of the day. To put in perspective how bad the track deteriorated throughout the day, the fastest lap recorded in the final 450MX moto of the day was Barcia 2:21.648—sixteen seconds slower than Dungey’s moto one time.

The third forth and fifth fastest laps were recorded by the Yoshimura/Suzuki’s Blake Baggett (2:06.416), Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Christophe Pourcel (2:06.972) and Justin Barcia (2:07.378), who also coincidentally occupied the podium. Barcia ripped the holeshot in the deep mud of moto two and ran away with the win and the overall while Pourcel’s 2-3 outscored Baggett’s 4-2 for the final two spots on the box.

For the first time since the opening round, Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo (2:09.433) was the fastest man in the 250MX class. Just like at Hangtown, Cianciarulo qualified #1 and carried that speed into the motos. Again, though, mistakes got the better of the sophomore professional, and he could not turn that speed into a podium on the day. In a strange irony, Adam finished right behind Musquin in both motos, but while Musquin’s 7-1 was good enough for first overall, Adam’s 8-2 only scored him 6th overall.

Unlike the 450’s, the two fastest 250MX laps were recorded in the second moto before the worst part of the storm rolled in. Finishing with the second fastest lap (2:09.592) was the 250MX Championship points leader, Musquin. Musquin and Cianciarulo got out front early in moto two and both sprinted out to a monstrous gap over third place Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin. The #25 and #50 must have felt like they were at home training for sprint laps because they were a full three seconds a lap faster than anyone in moto two.

The third (2:12.005) and fourth (2:12.345) fastest laps of the day were laid down by the Martin brothers with Jeremy edging out his younger brother Alex Martin. Both set their fastest lap of the day in moto one en-route to becoming the first-ever brothers to finish 1-2 in an AMA National moto. Jeremy made an incredible push from the back to take the lead in moto one, but it was Alex winning moto one after Jeremy stalled with just two turns to go. In the end, though, Alex finished second overall with a 1-7 score while Jeremy had to settle for a disappointing fourth overall on the day.
