Two weekends ago at the 2015 MXGP of Germany, Jeffrey Herlings broke his collarbone and immediately had surgery to have the collarbone plated. Fast forward to just two weeks later and the Dutchman won his qualifying race and the first moto at the 2015 MXGP of Sweden on the brutal Uddevalla circuit. Unfortunately, as we have seen with some Jeffrey’s other early returns from serious injury, the high of success was a brief one.

Needless to say, Jeffrey is getting quite acclimated to dealing with extreme pain.
Needless to say, Jeffrey is getting quite acclimated to dealing with extreme pain.

During the start of MX2 moto two today at the MXGP of Sweden, Jeffrey had a first-turn crash that nearly sliced the Championship leader’s fingers clean off. We’re not even sure how this could happen, but it appears Jeffrey got his hand stuck under the bars and sliced it. #84 After trying to remount and ride, Jeffrey pulled out of moto two from the pain, and after seeing the pictures @GateDropMX just tweeted, we can 100% understand.

In the end, Jeffrey finished the MXGP of Sweden with a 1-DNF for 7th overall and gave up another twenty-two points to his closest MX2 Championship rival, Tim Gasjer, who won the overall today. As it sits, Jeffrey still has a 78-point lead in the 2015 MX2 Championship, but we’re obviously not sure how long this injury will keep the former two-time MX2 Champ out. If we know Jeffrey, it won’t be long.

No official word on how much damage was caused by the cut, but we hear Jeffrey will again tape it up and suit up for the next race. Crazy, brave, insane, stupid, incredible desire–all words used to describe Jeffrey’s willingness to race through pain and injury.

We will update you more later.
