Ryan Villopoto is living up the old saying, “with age comes a cage”. A couple hours ago, Ryan sent out a surprise Instagram post saying he will contest the Baja 1000 in the TT Spec class. The multi-time Supercross and Motocross Champion is trading in his Monster Energy/Kawasaki for the #873 Brenthel Industries race truck and will drive with Jonathan Brenthel .

“I’m so grateful to Monster Energy and Brenthel Industries for making this happen,” said Villopoto, “I was able to drive Johnny Greaves’ Monster Energy Pro-4 on the track at Lake Elsinore once but this is my first time racing a truck in the desert; it’s the first time I’ve been to Mexico. We are heading out to prerun the course today.”

Four-time AMA World Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto, (RV2) will be driving a stint at the SCORE Baja 1000, (B1K) in the #873 Brenthel Industries race truck driven by Jonathan Brenthel. Villopoto will be starting at the top by competing in his first desert race ever at the legendary Baja 1000.

The top is a place where he is very comfortable. A Motocross of Nations Champion, Monster Energy Cup Champion and two time AMA Motocross Champion, he won four straight AMA Supercross titles from 2011 to 2014.

“We have been working on putting this together for a while,” said Jonathan Brenthel of Brenthel Industries, “Ryan will drive the coast section of the race. We are making a run in the Recon Prerunner with Ryan riding in the back seat so he can get a feel for the speeds. Then he will take the wheel on the second run. I will walk him through it while he gets used to the course. We will return to the U.S. where he will get in the race truck for a final shakedown and then head back to Baja for the race.”

Ryan Villopoto will be getting a great introduction to the sport of off-road racing with a proven, championship winning race team behind him. Brenthel Industries will in turn get Ryan’s unique perspective on the Recon Prerunner and the Spec Trophy Truck during race conditions. Brenthel Industries has had many skilled racers take a turn behind the wheel in their continuous process of vehicle refinement.

“Our goal is to get every last bit of performance out of our vehicles,” said Jonathan Brenthel, “We have tons of test data and feedback from drivers who have been behind the wheel. The result has been a performance vehicle that feels lighter, has better traction off the line, stops quicker, turns faster and jumps nicer than anything out there.”

The underlying goal of Brenthel is to keep setting goals. Keep pushing the boundaries and keep setting the bar for others to follow. Everything they build is created using state of the art CAD programs and then proven on the race course; Brenthel Industries leads the way by design. Their depth of knowledge and nimble manufacturing process allows them to work outside the box when it creates a better fit for the customer.
