Matt Moss is determined to overcome injuries and take his place on the grid at Saturday’s grand final round of the 2015 Penrite Australian Supercross Championships presented by Ryco Filters at Melbourne’s Knights Stadium.

Reigning two-time SX1 Australian Supercross Champion Matt Moss is
racing the clock to be fit to take his spot on the start line when the
sixth and final round of the 2015 Penrite Australian Supercross
Championship presented by Ryco Filters fires into life inside
Melbourne’s Knights Stadium at Sunshine, Victoria, this Saturday
(December 5).

The Team Motul Suzuki Supercross star is doing all he can to recover
from injuries sustained at last weekend’s fifth round of the
Championship staged as part of the inaugural AUS-X Open event at
Sydney’s indoor Allphones Arena.

Moss, who has been locked in battle with CDR Yamaha rider Dan Reardon
in this year’s SX1 Championship chase, looked good early on in the
Sydney round in front of a sell-out crowd, posting the fastest
Qualifying time and winning his opening Heat race ahead of Australian
international Supercross superstar Chad Reed.

But in the opening laps of the all-important Final, Moss crashed twice
and had to be helped from the circuit by the Racesafe medical crew,
his aspirations of a memorable three-peat of Australian Supercross
Championships dashed there and then. He is now third in the
Championship standings, behind Reardon and second CDR Yamaha rider,
Kade Mosig.

Moss suffered a heavily corked leg and took a heavy knock to the head
in the crashes, and while he was forced to sit out the second day of
racing at Sydney, the Suzuki ace is hopeful of recovering in time to
contest the Championship grand final in Melbourne this weekend.

“The day could not have gotten off to a better start, we were the
fastest in practice and qualifying and I was feeling great,” says Moss
of the Sydney event.

“The Heat race win in front of a massive crowd was an amazing feeling
and at that point I knew if everything went to plan we could take the
win later in the night when it counted.

“Obviously things didn’t go to plan in the main event,” Moss
continues, “as that second crash left me pretty beat up and unable to
continue.

“I banged my head pretty bad, but that is feeling all right now. The
leg is still very sore at the moment, I will have physio every day
this week and will hopefully be ready to race on Saturday.”

While disappointed to know his Championship hopes are dashed, Moss
remains determined to be on the start line in Melbourne, in what will
be the last event for the long-running Team Motul Suzuki factory
outfit managed by Jay Foreman, which will be making its final outing
this weekend.

“The Championship is out of reach for us now,” says Moss, “but it
would be great to finish my time with the team with a round win and we
are still in a position to finish second overall.

“There is still a lot to race for at the last round.”

Meanwhile Moss’s team mate in the Motul Suzuki squad, Kale Makeham, is
also battling to be fully fit this weekend, after aggravating an ankle
injury in the second day of racing at the AUS-X Open event.

Makeham tweaked his ankle during practice on the Sunday, after he
recorded a series best eighth place finish in Saturday’s points-paying
Australian Supercross Championship round.

Like Moss, Makeham is undergoing treatment through this week with the
goal of being ready for Saturday’s Melbourne event.
