The 2016 Oakland Supercross and round four of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, headed north for the fourth California round of the year. With rain hammering Northern California, there was once again a threat of a mudder, but once again the Dirt Wurx guys assembled a perfect race track for racing.

In the 450SX class, Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey won the 25th 450SX main event win of his career and his third-straight of ’16. In the 250SX main event, the defending Western Regional 250SX Champion, Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb, looked on his way to staying undefeated, but a bike problem while leading foiled his win streak. Instead, Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy slotted his name in the record books with his first-ever main event win, and with that, he went from twenty-two points down to a two-point lead in the 250SX West Championship standings.

In the battle for fastest 450SX lap time at O.co Coliseum, that trophy belongs to Dungey (53.229) for the second time this season. The #1 used the fastest lap and the fastest average lap time (54.518) of the night to slowly gap RCH/Soaring Eagle/Suzuki’s Ken Roczen—who had the second fastest 450SX lap time (53.508) and finished second in the main event. Kenny finally had his shot to start with Dungey and see his 2016 pace first hand, but on Saturday night, that pace was too much for the German to do anything about.

Ken continues to improve, but he has a big mountain to climb in the points.

The third (53.849), fourth (53.893) and fifth (54.292) fastest times of the night were clocked by Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson, Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin and Monster/Yamaha’s Chad Reed. Anderson once again had the speed to run at the front, but rounding the first turn in fifteenth did not do the New Mexico born rider any favors on Saturday night. Musquin, on the other hand, had the speed and the start on Saturday night. The Frenchman could not match Roczen or Dungey, but his pace, combined with a great start, was enough to lock in his first-ever podium in Oakland.

In the 250SX main event, the honor of fastest single 250SX lap time (53.994)—fifth fastest overall lap time—went to Joey Savatgy for the first time in ’16. The #37 laid down his fast lap on lap six while trying to stay glued to Cooper Webb’s—who had 2nd fastest lap (54.300)—rear wheel, but Joey bent his shifter and got stuck in second gear for the remainder of the race. That was bad luck for Joey, but a reversal of fortune came for Joey when Webb stalled his Yamaha on lap 12. Once around Webb, Joey cruised it home for his first-ever main event win by a comfortable seven-second margin.

The third (54.585), fourth (54.723) and fifth (54.857) fastest lap in the 250SX main event were logged in by CycleTrader/Yamaha’s Colt Nichols, GEICO/Honda’s Christian Craig and Star Racing/Yamaha’s Alex Martin. Colt used his impressive speed to score a career-best second on the night, while both Craig and Martin hit the deck in Oakland. Craig crashed while leading and was able to salvage a third on the night after Martin crashed out of third and scored one point with a DNF. It was the first time all season that Martin looked comfortable on the #26 Yamaha, and while the result sheet doesn’t show it, he picked up a lot of good momentum to build on at round four. Martin was not able to finish the race, but he did escape any serious injuries.
