Tim Gasjer has a comfy 92 point lead in MXGP World Championship.

We all know most times things we want don’t work out. The battle between Antonio Cairoli and Ryan Villopoto in 2015, the continued battle between Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre, or maybe the Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen battle in America. We all missed out on some great racing due to injuries, and that often seems the case.

When is the last time we saw Antonio Cairoli, Jeffrey Herlings, Eli Tomac, and Ken Roczen go head to head on the same circuit? Actually, we have never seen these four on the same circuit, on the same day.

It is nice to fantasize what might be possible with a little luck. Here are some things that would be cool if they happened.

Jeffrey Herlings has a massive 169 point lead in the MX2 Championship. The former champ is on pace to clinch with four rounds remaining.

What if Jeffrey Herlings wins the MX2 title in Switzerland on August 7?

Two American National rounds are between the next GP in Assen on August 28. Unadilla on August 13 and Budds Creek on August 20. If Herlings is still on a perfect season, a race in America might be high on his preferences. If his perfect season has been ruined before then, I seriously hope to see him race in the Assen sand on a 450, and he would take that two week break between Switzerland and Assen to prepare himself for the MXGP boys. Either way the sport is the winner.

What if Tim Gajser wins the MXGP title in Switzerland on August 7?

Just like Herlings, maybe he decides to do a round of the AMA Nationals? Again it would have to be Unadilla, or Budds Creek. Two tracks he would be very good on. Hey, he could even step back down to the MX2 class and battle Herlings in Assen, Charlotte or Glen Helen? Wear the number one plate for one appearance. Is that even allowed in the FIM rules? The MXGP champion, backing down to the MX2 class.

What if Ken Roczen wins the AMA 450 title?

Does he celebrate and join a long list of AMA heroes in the last two rounds of the MXGP championship at Charlotte and Glen Helen? What better way to show the world who the best rider in the world is? Seems unlikely he will be at the MXoN as he prepares for 2017 on his new team.

What if Eli Tomac closes the points lead down by Roczen in the AMA 450 championship and wins the title?

Does he then do the two USGP rounds as expected, and head to Italy for the MXoN with Team USA (seems likely even if he doesn’t win the 450 title)? Tomac has already made himself officially available for the USGP’s.

It's a huge stretch, but anything is possible.

What if Justin Barcia continues to improve his AMA 450 results?

Will he line up at Lommel like he promised us a couple of months ago? It is an AMA Nationals free weekend, and trying to secure a GP ride for the near future isn’t a bad idea. We still await him with open arms. A good result might sway Team USA to pick him for the MXoN. The team is usually picked two weeks after Lommel at the Unadilla round of the AMA Nationals.

What if Ryan Villopoto continues to race local events?

Does he decide he is still fast enough to join the other Monster Energy Kawasaki riders at the two USGP rounds? With his Glen Helen experience, he might still be able to handle the best GP riders in the world. He is racing a Supercross in Australia in November, so any bike time is good right?
