Webb was #9 last year and will move up to #4 in Maggiora. Can he lead Team USA to getting #1, #2, and #3 in 2017? Photo by: Hoppenworld

With the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship concluding in Indiana a few weeks ago and the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship series concluding last weekend at Glen Helen, the hype and the anticipation is peaked for the 2016 Motocross of Nations next weekend in Maggiora, Italy. For the United States, #4 Cooper Webb (MXGP) will be the team captain with #5 Alex Martin (MX2) and #6 Jason Anderson (Open) heading to Italy with Coop to try to reclaim the Chamberlain Trophy for the first time since 2011. The United States leads all nations with 22 wins at the event, but the last four events have been won by Germany, Belgium and France—the French coming in to 2016 on a two year win streak.

The defending back-to-back Champions, Team France, will wear the numbers 1, 2 and 3 in Maggiora and again appear to be one of the favorites on paper heading into the event with #1 Romain Febvre (MXGP), #2 Benoit Paturel (MX2) and #3 Gautier (Open) flying the French colors. Besides the French and the USA, another solid team is Team Belgium with #7 Kevin Strijbos (MXGP), #8 Jeremy vanHorebeek (MX2) and #9 Clement Desalle (Open). While those three 2015 podium teams again look to be the favorites, this event, more than any other, has so many variables. Because of those many variables, this race seldom won on paper. Hopefully our young and hungry team can get the job done for the USA.
