Round 2: Military Appreciation Race
Petco Park – San Diego
January 14, 2017

450SX Class

  • Blazing Start: Ken Roczen earned his landmark 10th career win by leading the entirety of the season-opening Main Event, wire-to-wire. He was also the fastest qualifier and won his Heat Race, leading every lap.
  • Red Return: Roczen won his championship debut with Team Honda HRC, putting the “Red Riders” back atop the podium for the first time since the 16th race of the 2015 season.
  • Making History: Roczen became the first rider in history to win the Anaheim opener aboard three different brands of motorcycles, and is now tied for the all-time lead with Chad Reed and James Stewart with three victories.
  • Deja Vu: Ryan Dungey’s runner-up finish equals his opening round result from last season, from which began his march toward consecutive titles.
  • Making the Most of it: In the first race under the new 20-minute-plus-one-lap Main Event format a total of 20 laps were completed.
  • OEM Parity: All six manufacturers were represented inside the top 10 at the Anaheim opener. KTM grabbed three of those spots, the most of any manufacturer.
