Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath took his second-straight win as the second round of the season took place inside Petco Park. McElrath put in the work during the 18-lap main event as he came from behind to extend his points lead. It was another near perfect day for McElrath, but unfortunately his teammate Mitchell Oldenburg encountered trouble in practice and suffered a broken collarbone.

Like last weekend’s race in Anaheim, McElrath rode to the win during his heat race. With another good start to the night under his belt, McElrath set up for the main event in good shape with first gate pick. He shot off the line and settled into the top five early, eventually making his way to second just after halfway. He finally was able to make his move on the tough and rutted track with just a few laps remaining and held on despite some pressure at the end.

“That was a really tough race, but we train hard for moments like this,” said McElrath. “It’s not supposed to be easy and our team manager has been reminding us that we’ve put in the work to be right here. It was a really hard track and pretty demanding. There were a few times I felt like I was going to go down, but managed to keep it up. I am so happy to give this to my team two weeks in a row. I’m ready to go back to Anaheim and do what we can to keep it going next week.”

Earlier in the day while McElrath was earning the second position in timed practice, Oldenburg had an unfortunate incident on the track that caused him to go down, resulting in a broken collarbone. He’ll get it evaluated this week to get a better idea as to when he can return.

For the first time this season, the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge riders took to the track for an unforgettable display of young talent. After three exhilarating laps, it was Manuel Dumais that took the win, while Niccolo Mannini and Hunter Schmidt rounded out the podium, respectively.

Round 3 of the supercross season brings the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM team back to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California where McElrath took his first career win.

McElrath celebrated the military appreciation race by sporting the all-new GP Liberty Racewear and the SE4 Compost Freedom Helmet. See all of the 2017 gear sets and the 2017 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.
