450SX Class

• Seeing Red: For just the second time in his career Ken Roczen has earned back-to-back wins. The last time Honda won consecutive races was in 2011 with Trey Canard and Chad Reed. The brand last won the opening two rounds in 1999 with Ezra Lusk.
• Rivalry Renewed: The first showdown of the season between Roczen & Ryan Dungey renewed their longstanding rivalry. They’ve now finished 1-2 in a total of 10 races since 2014, including five of the last eight races dating back to last season.
• Mirror Images: The finishing order of the top four through the first two rounds has been identical, with Roczen, Dungey, Marvin Musquin, and Jason Anderson. Eli Tomac and Cole Seely have rounded out the top six each time, but alternated top-five finishes.
• New Territory: Under the new timed Main Event format, the 450SX Class surpassed the 20-lap mark for the first time ever, logging a record 24 laps in San Diego.
• No Quit: Despite a starting average of just 8.5, Jason Anderson has been the most dynamic passer of the top 10 riders in the championship, improving an average of 4.5 positions through the first two rounds.
• Out of the Norm: Following a 14th-place finish by Cooper Webb in San Diego, Yamaha does not have a single rider inside the top 10 of the 450SX Class standings for the first time since 1976. Webb (11th), Dean Wilson (12th), and Chad Reed (14th) are all currently within seven points of 10th place.

Western Regional 250SX Class

• Late Surge: Shane McElrath’s two laps led in San Diego is the least a rider has been out front en route to victory since Cooper Webb led just one lap at Anaheim 2 during the 2015 season.
• Valuable Experience: Jimmy Decotis’ time out front in San Diego was the most of his career, leading 10 laps before ultimately finishing sixth. It was the most laps a rider has led without winning the Main Event since Zach Osborne led 11 laps in Santa Clara in 2016.
• True Grit: Bad starts have marred the start of Jeremy Martin’s 2017 season, but despite a 17th-place starting average, he still boasts a finishing average of 6.5. He’s improving 10.5 positions a race, the most of any rider in the championship, in either class.
• Flying By: The new timed Main Event format resulted in a record 18 laps of 250SX Class action in San Diego. Under the old 15-lap format, Martin Davalos would have emerged victorious, but instead lost the top spot to McElrath on Lap 16.
