Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s McElrath Takes Points Leads Out Of Southern California

Anaheim, Calif. (January 21, 2017) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath picked up valuable points during the final Southern California stop of the season with a solid third-place finish in front of huge crowd inside Angel Stadium. With his podium finish, McElrath holds the coveted red plate with a six-point lead over second in the overall Western Regional 250SX Class standings.

After a week full of rain that drenched the area, it was a welcomed sunny day that greeted the riders for Round 3 of the series. McElrath was focused on keeping his points lead and started the night off right with a second place finish in the heat race. He got out to a nice start inside the top five and steadily worked his way up to eventually finish third on the night.

“Everyone was going fast today and I felt like I rode my best,” said McElrath. “I am happy to get a solid finish and hold onto the red plate. I am so thankful for all the support I’ve received and we’ll keep at this going to Phoenix.”

The KTM Jr. Supercross Challenge was on-track in Anaheim, giving the crowd a great look at the future of the sport. Chase Andersen started the race on fire out in the lead, but was eventually overtaken by Mason Mickie. After three solid laps, Mickie came across the finish with the win, followed by Dustyn Davis and Andersen.

The Southern California stops are in the books and now the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM team will hit the road to University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, for Round 4 of the series on January 28th.
McElrath started the day in GP 50/50 Red racewear before switching to the SE Corsa Red/Yellow racewear for the night show. He was also sporting the SE4 Carbon Pinstripe Black and Gold helmet. See all of the 2017 gear sets and the 2017 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.

About KTM:

“READY TO RACE” for KTM, these three words are far more than a simple slogan. They stand for the entire company philosophy of developing vehicles that can without any modifications comprehensively assert themselves in any race. Direct from the dealer onto the track and into the battle for victory. Designers, engineers and riders are bound by a clear common denominator: an unconditional passion for motorcycles. The whole KTM family is a living example of this worldwide. Countless offroad World and European championship titles plus brilliant victories in the world’s toughest races (International Six Days Enduro, Dakar Rally, Erzbergrodeo, and many more) all speak for themselves. And KTM Supermotos, Naked Bikes, Superbikes and the X-Bow all demonstrate what an “orange” lead means on asphalt.
