MINNEAPOLIS (February 20, 2017) – RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing had a mixed bag of results when Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, made its debut at US Bank Stadium Saturday night.
Broc Tickle, rider of the No. 20 Suzuki RM-Z450, turned in a solid seventh-place performance at Round 7 and fortified his standing inside the top 10 in points. The event marked Tickle’s second consecutive top-seven effort and the Holly, Mich., rider is now tied for ninth in points where he trails seventh-place Dean Wilson by a slim four-point margin.
“It was awesome to be back in Minneapolis,” commented Tickle following the race. “I always enjoy racing in the Midwest, especially in a domed stadium. We had a great weekend. I felt good in practice and made a bunch of laps. We made some changes to the bike last week and that really paid off on Saturday night. The bike felt great. I had to race my way through the semi to get in the main but everything still felt pretty good.
“Outside of the first 20 seconds, the main event was awesome. My start wasn’t as good as it should have been but I made some quick passes and got into a good flow. I was actually in good position to race for fifth of sixth but I made a couple mistakes and lost some ground. That was good motivation to keep pushing forward. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season. We’ve had a little bit of a slow start but things are rolling in the right direction. We’re making progress every week.”
Unfortunately, Tickle’s RCH teammate Justin Bogle didn’t fare as well and was forced to withdraw from the main event after an ugly crash in his semi final. Bogle got up quickly but was noticeably in pain, forcing him to call it a night. The rider of the No. 20 Suzuki was examined and released at a local hospital and is expected compete this weekend in Atlanta.
“I came up short in that rhythm section, went over the bars, and that was the end of my night,” explained Bogle. “We were having a good day and I felt good on the bike. I just missed my mark through that section and it bit me. I went to the hospital and everything checked out fine. I’m just sore. We’ll be ready for Atlanta on Saturday.”
Tickle, Bogle and the rest of the Monster Energy Supercross road show heads south of the Mason-Dixon Line this weekend when the series visits downtown Atlanta for its final visit to the Georgia Dome. Round 8 of the 2017 Supercross Championship will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 Saturday, Feb. 25 beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 4 p.m. Pacific.
