450SX Class

  • Bounce Back: Following a season-worst 15th-place finish in Arlington, Eli Tomac bounced back in a big way in Minneapolis, easily capturing his third win in the past four races. He now has the most wins of any rider in the 450SX Class.
  • Making It Count: Each of Tomac’s three podium finishes in 2017 have come in the form of victories. He has now led the most laps of competition this season as well.
  • Sophomore Surge: Fresh of his first career win the week prior, Marvin Musquin enjoyed arguably his most impressive outing in Minneapolis, passing four riders, including teammate Ryan Dungey, en route to a runner-up effort.
  • Big Picture: Despite dropping a position late to his teammate, Dungey still posted his class-leading sixth podium finish of the season and has leveraged his championship-best 2.4 finishing average into a 16-point lead in the standings.
  • Drop the Gate: Emphasizing the importance of a start, there has yet to be a repeat holeshot winner in the premier division through the first seven races of the season. Three riders have converted their holeshot into a win.
  • Depth on Display: In Minneapolis both Trey Canard and Dean Wilson transferred directly to the Main Event from their Heat Race for the first time this season. Through seven races, a total of 18 riders have been able to accomplish that feat.

Eastern Regional 250SX Class

  • An Early Statement: Joey Savatgy’s win in the Eastern Regional opener is his second straight dating back to Las Vegas last season. Additionally, his Pro Circuit Kawasaki team has now won five Main Events in a row.
  • Seeing Green: Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s five-race winning streak is the longest since the team captured seven in a row during the 2014 season, which was spread amongst five different riders.
  • Starting Strong: In his first race with the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM team Jordon Smith captured the best finish of his career in second. He had just one prior podium result and three top-five finishes in 11 career starts entering Minneapolis.
  • Surefire Speed: With the top qualifying time and lowest lap average in the Main Event Zach Osborne was arguably the fastest rider at the Eastern Regional opener, but a fifth-place start combined with a brief tip over put his hopes of a maiden victory on hold.
