Monster Energy Supercross’ rich history in Detroit dates back 41 years to 1976 when the legendary Pontiac Silverdome hosted races for 29 seasons from ’76-’05. It was one of the first two stadiums to host multiple races in a season in 1977.

Detroit’s storied legacy is highlighted by its distinction as being the host city with the longest tradition of hosting weekend doubleheaders over the course of 16 seasons from ’77-’93.

The championship made the move to Ford Field in 2006 and raced there for three seasons before ending a six-year absence in “The Motor City” in 2014. In total, the 52 races held in Detroit are second only to Anaheim all time in supercross history.

The track layouts inside Ford Field pay homage to Detroit’s supercross legacy by running into the stands, a tradition that helped make the sport’s races inside the Pontiac Silverdome iconic.
