| Round 3 – AMA National Hare & Hound Championship – March 26, 2017
MURPHY, Idaho – FMF KTM Factory Racing Team’s Kacy Martinez returned to the top step of the podium on Sunday for Round 3 of the AMA National Hare & Hound Series in Murphy, Idaho. KTM-mounted riders Rebecca Stout and Britney Gallegos finished 2nd and 3rd place respectively, making it an all-KTM podium in the premier Women’s class.Following a bit of rainfall leading up to Sunday’s race day, the Idaho terrain provided ideal racing conditions for Round 3. With a mixture of single-track, sand washes and technical rocky terrain, the long course offered up plenty of variety for the riders.
Martinez powered her KTM 250 XC-F to a good start where she sat in 37th overall at the end of the bomb. Martinez immediately put herself into a favorable position ahead of the Women’s class competition as she maintained the lead through the first 63-mile loop.
Martinez held tough throughout the second half of the race as she led every bit of the 66-mile terrain that made up the second loop. After over four hours of racing, Martinez was able to finish several minutes ahead of the 2nd place rider of Stout, followed by Gallegos in 3rd.
Martinez: “Round three has to be my favorite so far! I felt very comfortable and enjoyed the terrain and trails. I got a good start off the bomb and rode my own race from there. It’s always tough not knowing where you’re at during the first loop because of the bomb start but I pushed the entire race and came out on top.”
FMF KTM Factory Racing Team’s Taylor Robert and Ivan Ramirez were not able to compete in Round 3. Ramirez is sitting out due to an unknown illness that drains his energy levels and Robert is recovering from surgery following an injury sustained during a racing event in February.
