Foothill Ranch, CA (March 26, 2017) – After winning three in a row for the first time in his 450 career, Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac was a favorite leading into Round 12 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. When the gate dropped on the 450SX Class Main Event, Tomac and teammate Josh Grant came barreling around Turn 1 in second and fourth place respectively. Tomac wasted no time racing into the lead on Lap 4 and quickly began sprinting away, setting the fastest lap of the race. The No. 3 KX™450F powered away from the competition in the “Motor City” and rode on to his fourth straight win with an eight second margin of victory. Grant went on to finish eighth place.
“Tonight was an amazing accomplishment,” said Tomac. “I had a great start from an outside gate and made the move early for the lead. From there it was all about throttle control on a very slick and hard pack track. I’m looking forward to keeping the ball rolling.”
“It was a great night for both the team and me,” said Grant. “The bike was perfect all day and I believed it showed in the Main Event. A great start allowed me to run up front and finish with one of my best results of the season.”
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo set the pace early in the night with a dominant win in 250SX Heat 2. When the gate dropped on the 250SX Class Main Event, it was the No. 36 KX™250F of Cianciarulo powering to his second holeshot of the night with teammate Joey Savatgy in third. It wouldn’t take long before the top three began banging bars for the lead. Unfortunately, both Kawasaki riders tipped over early in the race, falling back to third and fourth place respectively. The battle wouldn’t end there as Savatgy raced his way back into second place, where he would finally finish, and teammate Cianciarulo earning third place. With his second place finish, Savatgy has regained the points lead in the 250SX East Coast Region Championship by a margin of nine points.
“Tonight really went down to the line,” said Savatgy. “I rode a little tight in the beginning of the race which caused me to make a mistake and fall back to third. I managed to regroup and finish second. It feels great to have the red plate leading into the final round before a break.”
“I feel I rode great all day,” said Cianciarulo. “We got the ball rolling early in the day in qualifying, which lead into a great heat win. It was unfortunate to tip over in the main but happy to finish up on the box and make up some points.”
