The use and consumption of alcohol (ethanol) had been officially prohibited in competition under the WADA rules, incorporated into the FIM Anti-Doping Code, since 2004.

However, as from 2015, WADA agreed that the FIM could henceforth consider alcohol as no longer prohibited as a doping agent but as a substance prohibited for safety reasons under with the FIM Medical Code.

The FIM Anti-Doping Code and Medical Code were modified accordingly. You can find the FIM Alcohol Testing procedure as set out in Appendix V of the 2017 FIM Medical Code, including the applicable sanctions, at the link below: http://www.fim-live.com/en/fim/the-commissions/medical/

Under this new procedure, alcohol tests were carried out by breath testing on 1 April 2017 in Leon, Mexico and on 15 April in Pietramurata, Italy during the FIM MXGP/MX2 World Championship events.

The following riders were tested:

In Leon: Clément DESALLE, BEL – MXGP Tanel LEOK, EST – MXGP Maximilian NAGL, GER – MXGP Samuele BERNARDINI, ITA – MX2 Ivan PETROV, BUL – MX2 Iker LARRAÑAGA OLANO, ESP – MX2

In Pietramurata: Jose BUTRON, ESP – MXGP Tim GAJSER, SVN – MXGP Lukas NEURAUTER, AUT- MXGP Brent VAN DONINCK, BEL – MX2 Pauls JONASS, LAT – MX2 Thomas Kjer OLSEN, DEN – MX2

All the test results were negative. The threshold is equivalent to a blood concentration of 0.10 g/L. The future results of alcohol testing at FIM World Championships & Prize events will be published on a regular basis in the FIM-LIVE.com website under Beyond Sport – Medical.
