450SX Class
- Battle to the Finish: Eli Tomac has successfully erased a season-high 29-point deficit to Ryan Dungey, with both riders now tied atop the 450SX Class standings with three rounds remaining. It will mark the first time this season that two riders will carry the red number plate.
- Counting Numbers: Despite having his five-race winning streak snapped, Tomac has still earned 194 of 200 possible points over the course of his comeback, anchored by six wins and eight-straight podiums. On the flip side, Dungey has earned 165 of 200 points, with just one win and six podiums.
- All Eyes on the Gate: The biggest difference between Dungey and Tomac over this stretch has been their starts. Tomac has started ahead of Dungey in all but one of the past eight races, and on average is starting exactly four positions higher than the champ during that stretch.
- Truly Defending His Crown: Dungey’s season-long starting average is approaching the worst of his entire career at 6.1, compared to 2.6 and 3.2 the previous two seasons. As a result, he’s passing an average of 3.5 riders per Main Event this season and has been forced to pass nearly five riders per race over the last eight rounds (4.9).
- Cool, Calm, and Collected: Tomac’s historic comeback is due to a career-best starting average of 4.7 that has seen him start inside the top three in eight races this season, including six of the past eight rounds. His 10th-place start in Seattle equaled his worst of 2017, but he passed a season-high eight riders to claim a runner-up finish.
- High Drama: The battle for the 2017 title is one of the closest in history with 0 points sitting between the title contenders this late in the season. The last time there was a tie this late in the championship was 2006 when Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed entered the finale tied at 316 points apiece.

- In the Driver’s Seat: Justin Hill’s four-race winning streak came to an end in Seattle, but he still claimed his sixth-straight podium result to maintain a healthy double-digit points lead. Hill has been the most consistent rider in all of the 250SX Class, with a series-best 1.8 finishing average.
- Class of the Field: Statistically, Hill has been arguably the best all around 250SX Class rider this season. He boasts four Main Event wins, six podiums, four Heat Race wins, and five top qualifying times – all of which are class-leading marks across both regions.
- Rise to the Occasion: Aaron Plessinger’s dominant Seattle win came at an opportune time, keeping Hill within sight in the championship. However, Plessinger’s 7.9 starting average is forcing him to pass nearly five riders a race (4.9) just to keep pace. It’s the most of any 250SX Class rider who has started every Main Event in either region.
- Career Breakthrough: Despite making just his second Western Regional start this season due to injury Mitchell Oldenburg enjoyed a career-best outing in Seattle by claiming his first-career podium result. The Troy Lee Designs team has now put all four of its 250SX Class riders across both regions on the podium in 2017.
