At the 2017 East Rutherford SX, Monster Energy / Pro Circuit / Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy crashed while running second in the 250SX main event. The Eastern Regional 250SX points leader got pointed the wrong direction in the crash and rejoined the track in the wrong lane.

With that mistake, Joey gained two positions on the track, and it was just announced that he will be penalized a very stiff five positions after crossing the line in third. We are told that after the penalty, Savatgy will be credited with 8th place points and hand the red plate to Jordon Smith.

Unofficially—if our math is correct—the penalty moves Jordon Smith (160) into the points lead with Zach Osborne (159) and Joey Savatgy (159) now tied for second in the points.
