Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Alex Martin Rides To Sixth Overall at Glen Helen

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. (May 27, 2017) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Alex Martin scored another solid finish at Round 2 of the Pro Motocross series, notching a sixth overall. Teammate Shane McElrath ended up right outside the top-10 in 11th, while rookie Sean Cantrell was 12th. Mitchell Oldenburg was running well, but ended up breaking his collarbone in the opening moto.
After finishing in the runner-up spot last week, Martin brought his confidence into Glen Helen. While his confidence was there, his starts forced him to climb through the pack. In Moto 1, Martin started 10th and charged up to sixth, while in Moto 2 he did even better, charging from 11th to fifth. His 6-5 score placed him sixth overall.

“I thought I could be up front with those guys, but my starts didn’t go to plan,” said Martin. “They are really important on a track like this where everyone can get separated pretty quick. I think we’ll have something for next weekend.”

While McElrath would like to be sitting inside the top-10, he has improvement on his side. He continued to show progress on his way to 11th overall. His opening moto, he started eighth and rounded the checkered flag in 12th, but the second moto was able to break into the top-10 where he finished ninth overall.

“We’re moving in the right direction and that’s what matters,” said McElrath. “After going 13th overall and then 11th, I’d love to be able to break in to the top-10 next weekend.”

Rookie Cantrell continued to show signs of brilliance during Round 2. He once again rode with the front pack in Moto 1 on his way to 10th. Cantrell started in the top 10 again in Moto 2 and didn’t lose many spots when he finished in 11th. His 10-11 score pushed him just behind McElrath for 12th overall.

“Each week has been a learning experience and I have a great team that supports me no matter what,” said Cantrell. “It makes you want to go out and have the best moto of the year when they encourage you. I’m looking forward to getting out to another round next weekend.”

Oldenburg came into the day looking to shine after his ninth-place finish last weekend. He was climbing the charts in Moto 1, but he ended up hitting a downed bike and went over the bars, breaking his collarbone. The team will be monitoring his progress before anticipating a return timeline.

The team is back in action next weekend as the series heads east to Denver, Colorado to Thunder Valley Raceway on June 3.
