NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (August 12, 2017)  Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath and Sean Cantrell were faced with two very different motos at Unadilla MX, eventually finishing 12th and 18threspectively. Moto 1 presented perfect weather, while Moto 2 got underway after several delays due to lightning and incredible amounts of rain. McElrath was able to hold onto 12th overall with a 10-14 moto score, while Cantrell still earned 18th overall even after not being able to run the second moto after a first turn crash.
McElrath’s day started out solid as he grabbed a 12th place start in Moto 1. He worked his way up to 10thby the time the 30 minutes plus two laps were complete, earning him another top-10 moto result. After the skies opened up and destroyed the track, officials reduced the second moto to 20 minutes plus one lap. With limited vision, McElrath worked his way up from an 18th place start and even with the limited time moved into 14th by the checkered flag flew.

“That second moto was one of the craziest I’ve ever ridden in and I’m glad we were able to make it through and actually gain some positions,” said McElrath. “It was overall a tough day, but we stayed healthy and will look to bounce back into the top 10 next weekend.”

For Cantrell, his day began with a nice start in Moto 1 that saw him open the moto just outside the top 10. He made some early moves, ultimately finishing the moto with a solid in 14th– place finish. Cantrell was ready to keep the speed up in Moto 2, but after going down in the first turn retired early from the race. Even with his 14-40 moto score, he still earned 18th overall.

“I felt pretty good in Moto 1 and think I could have done well in the second moto if the rain didn’t destroy the track,” said Cantrell. “It was a bummer to go down in the opening moments of the second moto, but hopefully we’ll get back up there at Budds Creek.”

The riders wore the GP Maze Yellow and Green Racewear, along with the SE4 Polyacrylite Helmet. See all of the 2018 gear sets and the 2018 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.
