MECHANICSVILLE, MD. (August 19, 2017)  Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath broke through for his first overall podium of the season during a hot and humid day at Budds Creek Motocross Park. With only four motos left coming into the weekend, McElrath took great advantage and scored fourth in Moto 1 and third in Moto 2. Teammate Sean Cantrell ran a solid opening moto in 10th and his 18th in Moto 2 pushed him to 14th overall.
McElrath felt good from the start of the day, qualifying fifth in the morning. He got a nice start in Moto 1, and came around in fourth on the opening lap. Staying on pace the 30 minutes plus two laps, McElrath finished in fourth. Moto 2 was even better as he started up front and took over the lead by the end of the first lap. He held on to third at the end, giving him third overall.“It feels so great to finally put together two good motos,” said McElrath. “I would love to see another two good motos to close out the season next week. With two of our teammates out, it’s nice to be able to give this back to the team and see their hard work payoff too.”

Rookie Cantrell continued to learn and grow during his first trip to Budds Creek. In the opening moto, he stayed with the front group early and was able to hold on for his fifth top-10 finish. In Moto 2, he was pushed out of the top 20 and put in a strong race to finish 18th. His 10-18 placed him 14th overall.“We’ve seen so many people injured this season and while I would like to be in the top 10, it’s good to be going into the final race healthy,” said Cantrell. “I have one more chance to learn and be aggressive. I hope to break into the top 10 overall.”

The riders wore the SE Joker Flo Yellow Racewear, along with the GP Primsa Flo Pink Racewear. They also wore the SE4 Polyacrylite Helmet. See all of the 2018 gear sets and the 2018 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.
