Chad Reed had a full off-season of racing planned with the former two-time 450SX Champion slated to contest the 2017 Red Bull Straight Rhythm event last weekend and AUS-X Open event later in November, but that plan only lasted a couple minutes into practice last weekend. While getting in a few practice runs on the YZ250 two-stroke at Red Bull Straight Rhythm, Chad over-jumped one of the sections and fractured his foot in two spots.

“I’ve been slow on the unfortunate news in respect to AUS-X Open,” Chad said from his @CRTwoTwo Instagram account. “The one race on my calendar I look forward to most is the Sydney AUS-X Open. This years race was always going to have its challenges but nothing I wasn’t up for. Unfortunately my slight over jump last week resulted in two fractures to my ankle (talus). I saw my specialist and the best chance at a healthy fast recovery was to do surgery. So unfortunately I won’t be able to compete in Australia in two weeks time, BUT I’ll make the trip down to see as many fans as possible. As for 2018, the goal remains the same! A1.”

This injury is a huge setback for the currently unemployed former champ. Chad has put out quite a few hints about what his plans for 2018 are, but nothing official has been released yet. We wish Reedy a speedy recovery and look forward to him continuing his Hall of Fame career in 2018.
