Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Smith and Cantrell Start Eastern Regional Championship with Top-10 Finishes

ARLINGTON, TEXAS. (February 17, 2018)  Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM‘s Jordon Smith and Sean Cantrell opened the Eastern Regional 250SX Championship with top-10 results inside AT&T Stadium. Cantrell started the main event at the front of the pack, finishing his first-ever supercross in ninth. Smith had to overcome the first-turn carnage to finish in sixth.

On a track that continued to collect riders all night, the 250SX Eastern Regional Main Event was no different. The first turn took down some of the top riders including Smith, but he was able to remount and make a charge towards the top 10. He kept pushing until the final lap where he made contact with another rider yet managed to get up and finish with some solid points in sixth.

“That was a crazy race,” said Smith. “From the first turn having to get up and get going again to the final lap, I’m just glad to get out of Texas without any major injury. We can walk away and look forward to a solid weekend in Tampa next week.”

Cantrell enjoyed his first-ever supercross race of his professional career in Dallas and was able to showcase his speed in the main event. He ran in second for over half the race but suffered a small get off that pushed him back. After getting back up quickly, he was able to finish with a top 10 result in ninth.

“It’s an unreal experience to be under the lights for the first time,” said Cantrell. “I am so thankful for the opportunity and to be able to see what it takes to run up front will definitely help me as we move forward throughout this season. I’m really looking forward to proving myself in the upcoming weeks.”

The fan-favorite KTM Junior Supercross Challenge was back in action and it was all youngster Carson Wood. He took the win, followed by Zakary Lillie and Alexander Camm.

Smith and Cantrell showcased the SE Air Jersey Shadow Honey/Red and SE Air Pant Shadow Honey/Red during the opening round of the Eastern Regional Championship. They also ran the SE4 Polyacrylite Helmet Pinstripe Red helmet.

“READY TO RACE” for KTM, these three words are far more than a simple slogan. They stand for the entire company philosophy of developing vehicles that can without any modifications comprehensively assert themselves in any race. Direct from the dealer onto the track and into the battle for victory. Designers, engineers and riders are bound by a clear common denominator: an unconditional passion for motorcycles. The whole KTM family is a living example of this worldwide. Countless offroad World and European championship titles plus brilliant victories in the world’s toughest races (International Six Days Enduro, Dakar Rally, Erzbergrodeo, and many more) all speak for themselves. And KTM Supermotos, Naked Bikes, Superbikes and the X-Bow all demonstrate what an “orange” lead means on asphalt.
