St. Louis, MO (March 17, 2018) – GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin has righted the ship after a rough start to his Monster Energy Supercross season. On Saturday night, he scored his second-straight runner-up finish in 250SX East. Couple the back-to-back seconds with a main event win in the Atlanta Triple Crown race three weeks ago, and the Minnesota native is back to his customary role as a weekly contender for race wins.
Martin started the race around third and then inherited second when race leader Austin Forkner went down. He kept eventual race winner Zach Osborne honest, but needed a little more pace to get the victory.
“Yeah, we’re here fighting for it,” said Martin. “These guys are good. I felt really good in practice and I was fifth fastest. I felt like I was giving her the beans, and these guys were still faster than me. I just put my head down, and every time I go out there I just try to fight the boys.
“I can’t control these guys or what they’re doing or what they’re thinking,” continued Martin, who is now up to fourth in the standings, 22 behind Osborne, the leader. “All I can do is focus on me and what’s going on. Zach and Forkner got away a little bit there. I was like, we’re settling in for the long haul. That’s what we did. We just kept fighting. I just did the best I could do.”
Martin’s 250SX East teammates RJ Hampshire and Cameron McAdoo are currently out with injuries, but he’ll be joined by his 250SX West teammate Chase Sexton at the next race, the first East/West Showdown of the season in Indianapolis.
“It should be wild,” Martin said of the battle coming this Saturday. “Look at the east coast guys. We’ve been KO’ing ourselves it seems like just in our series. Get the west coast guys in there and get a little different flavor. It should be a good night of racing.”
GEICO Honda’s other 250SX West rider, Christian Craig, will spend the rest of the supercross campaign racing Team Honda HRC’s CRF450R in the 450SX class. He again acquitted himself well in St. Louis, logging ninth in the main event.
