In head scratching news, Alex Ray–formerly with Cycletrader / RockRiver / Yamaha team for SX–apparently will be filling on for the injured Cooper Webb to start the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. There has been no official press release from Yamaha, but Transworld Motocross went to Glen Helen today, talked to Alex Ray there and wrote a report of their own on it.

No exact time frame on how long Webb will be out.

We say it’s head scratching news because while Alex has made huge strides in Monster Energy Supercross, he has never been someone known for his outdoor motocross skills. Maybe the guys over at Yamaha know something we don’t. Either way, it is cool to see a journeyman privateer like Alex getting some solid opportunities. Now, lets see what he does with it.

Alex Ray did throw up an Instagram hint late last night that said “#blucru”.
