Kyle Chisholm puts YZ450F inside Top 10
– Glen Helen Race Report –
May 28, 2018 – Livingston, CA – 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha rider Kyle Chisholm raced to 9th overall at the Glen Helen National this past weekend.  Kyle’s consistency, hard work and speed on his Yamaha YZ450F paid off throughout the day on one of the sport’s toughest tracks.
The overcast day started off with a Top 20 qualifying time as Kyle adapted to the unique race track. After a few minor adjustments and an autograph signing with fans, he was ready to line up with the pack of 40 in front of a raucous SoCal crowd.
The gate drop of 450 Moto 1 saw the field drag race into the first turn and up into the famous Glen Helen hills. Chisholm rounded the Talledega corner about midpack but would cross the finish line in 13th position after the chaos of lap 1. Kyle settled into a quick race pace and rode smooth as the track roughened up and new lines developed. After pressuring the rider in front of him into a mistake, Chisholm was able to ride the #11 to an 11th place finish.
The start of Moto 2 was not stellar and Kyle was mired in a traffic jam as bad as the throngs of cars trying to enter Glen Helen on the single road earlier in the day.  With less rules and no police presence, Kyle was able to use wide lines, pass riders and move ahead quickly.  He rode with a sense of urgency and quickly caught a group of riders that seemed to battle for the entire 30 minutes and 2 laps. The #11 machine picked off multiple riders with heightened intensity and continued to improve his lap times as the track deteriorated.  After a hard fought moto, Chisholm crossed the line in 11th place.
I definitely had to work for this one, but a Top 10 overall feels great,” Chisholm said after the race. “First moto was good, just settled into a pace and was able to click off consistent laps. Second moto was a little tougher with my poor start, having to ride over Ken Roczen’s bike and taking a huge rock to my knee.  I think I just rode looser and was having fun despite the rough track conditions. The bike worked really well today and I’m super happy to be making improvements at the second round. I want to be closer to the front but satisfied with 9th at this point.
