TAMAQUA, Pa. – The 2018 Tough like RORR intense offroad race took place over the weekend in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania and KTM-mounted riders dominated the Main Event on Sunday to give the orange brand a 1-2-3 sweep atop the podium. Trail Jesters KTM Racing’s Ben Kelley led the way with the Main Event victory, while FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Josh Toth finished runner-up, and Tely Energy Racing/KTM’s Grant Baylor rounded out the top three.
In the Main Event, Toth powered his KTM 250 XC-W TPI into a great position off the start but he experienced some issues early on that dropped him off the pace of the leader. Toth battled through the early challenges to put himself into third on the opening lap and he immediately went to close the gap on the leaders. In the second half of the race, Toth was able to put forth a big charge that took him into the second-place position on the final lap. Toth maintained a good pace through the checkers to earn second place after almost exactly three hours of intense racing.
Toth: “It was a brutal weekend between the track and the heat. I conserved myself in qualifying and felt really well going into the Main Event. I got off to a good start but unfortunately had some freak mechanical issues immediately that were out of everyone’s control and it made my day very difficult but I gave it my best effort and given the circumstances, I am very happy with my riding and fitness. I believe if I did not have issues early on I would’ve been battling up front for the win but I can’t be too upset with second place and surviving the brutal race!”
Ben Kelley, who led from flag to flag in the Main Event, put forth a solid performance aboard the KTM 250 XC-W TPI to ultimately finish five minutes ahead of Toth. Grant Baylor also had a great ride, charging his way from a slow start in fourth to finishing only two minutes behind Toth for the third and final podium position.
