Round 5 – AMA EnduroCross Series – October 28, 2018

EVERETT, Wa. – FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Kacy Martinez claimed her second-straight AMA EnduroCross victory of the season on Saturday in Everett, Washington where she now carries a three-point lead into the final round. Her teammate, Cody Webb, fought hard all evening to claim a runner-up finish in the Super EnduroCross class.

Webb looked to have a successful night set up in Everett as he carried great momentum into the evening’s Main Event. Starting off with a heat race win, Webb battled through the brackets to face Colton Haaker in the final head-to-head matchup. Webb executed his way around the one-lap drag race to earn his first bonus point of the season with a bracket race-win.

In the Main Event, Webb powered his KTM 350 EXC into second early on, battling with Haaker for the lead spot. Webb moved into the lead on lap five and swapped the position several more times throughout the 15-lap race. Webb held the advantage into the final laps but a mistake on his end allowed Haaker to take over the lead with one lap to go. From there, Webb fought hard to regain the position but he wasn’t able to make a move before the checkers, settling for second on the night.

Webb:“Everett EnduroCross almost went as planned. I finally won my first bracket race of the year and I was really looking forward to the Main Event. I went back-and-forth in the lead and made a bobble with a lap to go and gave up the lead. I did everything I could the last lap to get it back, but had to settle for second. Everything was working awesome and I need to minimize those mistakes at the final round.”

In the Women’s Main Event, Martinez got a good jump off the line aboard her KTM 250 EXC-F but she made a mistake going into the first turn and KTM-mounted rider Shelby Turner took over the early lead. Turner went wide in the log section and Martinez got pinched off, leaving her with nowhere to go as the entire field moved past. Martinez dug deep and made her way from last to fourth on the opening lap, and she continued to fight her way into the lead by lap three. From there, she held strong to finish more than one-minute ahead of Turner. KTM-mounted rider Maria Forsberg rounded out the all-KTM podium with third place.

Martinez:“I was feeling good and confident on the track all day during practice and was ready to put in a great ride for the main! I got a good jump off the start but I made a mistake and broke too hard in the first corner and pushed the front-end, allowing Shelby to get underneath me. She went super wide in the logs and I had nowhere to go. Now sitting dead last, I put my head down and rode my own race picking off my competitors in the first two laps before I went into the lead and rode solid to the finish!”
