AMA Monster Energy Supercross is in Everbank Field tonight in the beautiful city of Jacksonville, just a few hours south of Atlanta, which provided some of the best racing of the season. Ryan Sipes is coming off a career first win in Indianapolis and is working hard to carry that momentum to the Sunshine state, but the Monster/Pro Circuit Kawasaki prodigies, Dean Wilson and Blake Baggett, are fighting to keep that from happening. Both have one win so far this season, and looking to make it two. Justin Barcia—the wild child, the beast from the east and current points leader—won the opening round in Houston. He has three-straight 2nd place finishes coming into Jacksonville.

Ryan Sipes in Atlanta

In the first qualifying session, Ryan Sipes once again blew the field away by posting a 45.9. The DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing Yamaha pilot is on a mission to do whatever it takes to win tonight. His two rivals this year, Dean Wilson and Justin Barcia, were 2nd and 3rd fastest. Last weekend in Indianapolis, Matt Lemoine proved that he could nail down a fast lap with best Lites riders in the world. Today was no different, as he posted the 4th quickest lap time. The other DNA/Shred Stix/Star Racing pilot Gannon Audette finally was able to qualify in the seeded practice, and showed everyone he deserves to be there. Gannon qualified 5th on the board at the end of the session. Blake Baggett—who is not generally the fastest qualifier—was 9th quickest.

The second session saw a repeat of the top four from session one. For the fourth straight time, Ryan Sipes dominated the qualifying session. This time, however, he brought his lap time down to a 45.5. Wilson was 2nd quickest, and Barcia—who crashed right at the end of the session—was 3rd, with Lemoine 4th, Blake Baggett 5th and GEICO Honda’s Blake Wharton in 6th.

In the premier class, Ryan Villopoto came in hot with three-straight victories. James Stewart has had a rough couple of weeks and wants to put on a good show here tonight. Chad Reed, meanwhile, dealt with stomach issues last weekend, but was still able to finish on the podium. He comes into Jacksonville 29 points behind the Washington native RV2. Defending Supercross Champion, Ryan Dungey, is 4th in points and has yet to have landed a win this year.

James Stewart in Daytona

In the first qualifying session, James Stewart flew around the technical Jacksonville track like it was a Sunday stroll through the park. He topped the field with an astonishing 44.3, almost a second quicker than defending champion Ryan Dungey. That #1 plate on the front of Dungey’s bike must be getting heavy. He needs a win tonight. American Honda’s Trey Canard was 3rd with a 45.4. Kevin Windham placed 4th in qualifying, TwoTwo Motorsports Chad Reed was 5th, and Monster Energy Kawasaki points leader Ryan Villopoto was 6th.

Joe Gibbs Yamaha’s Davi Millsaps was 3rd quickest, followed by Ryan Villopoto. American Honda’s Trey Canard rounded out the top 5, while Chad Reed sat back in 9th.
