With two long seasons coming to an end, both the Can-Am GNCC series and WORCS Racing series crowned champions this weekend. After the dust settled, Thor rider Kurt Caselli successfully defended his WORCS Racing championship, and Charlie Mullins finally realized the thrill of earning his first Can-Am GNCC title.

Consistency played a key role for Caselli during the 10-round WORCS Racing series where he never finishing outside the top five. Caselli’s biggest competition throughout the season came from fellow Thor riders Mike Brown and Taylor Robert. During the final round at Speedworld Raceway in Surprise, Ariz., Robert earned his third overall win of the season with 2-1 scores, while Brown was right behind him in second with a matching score of 1-2, just missing the tiebreaker.

At Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., the Can-AM GNCC series hosted its first-ever doubleheader weekend to make up for rescheduled Rounds 5 and 6. On Friday, Mullins showed dominance, but misfortune ultimately took him out of the race. Despite the bad luck, Mullins’ points lead was large enough to allow him a double-digit advantage going into Sunday’s final event. Other Thor riders showing speed on Friday were Cory Buttrick who finished second, and Thor rider Kailub Russell, in fourth. During Sunday’s final race, Mullins was on a mission to make up for Friday’s heartbreak, winning the race by nearly three minutes ahead of runner-up finisher Russell. Buttrick finished 11th.

With the 2012 AMA Arenacross Series in full swing, the racers faced their first doubleheader event of the year from 1st Mariner Arena, in Baltimore, Md. After a fourth-place finish on Friday night, Thor rider Jeff Gibson showed tremendous speed on Saturday night, capturing his first victory of the season. Gibson will try to keep his win-steak alive as the AMA Arenacross Series keeps rolling next weekend in Madison, Wis.
