JDR Motorex KTM will enter tomorrow night’s fifth and final round of the 2011 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, within reach of both the Pro Open and Pro Lites titles at Ipswich in Queensland.
With team regulars Matt Moss and Tye Simmonds vying for their respective titles, the JDR Motorsports outfit will also welcome new American signing Malcolm Stewart as a guest for the weekend. Stewart, who recently signed for JDR’s U.S. team, will be on hand to take in the action and sign autographs for the local fans.
Dual Pro Lites champion Matt Moss is on track to defend the team’s title won last season, taking a commanding 22-point lead into round five aboard his 250 SX-F on Saturday, 19 November.
Three points or more will seal the deal for Moss, however as always he’ll be striving to take victory, which would be his fourth of the season. This weekend will also be Moss’ final race on home soil before joining the JDR Motorsports team in the U.S. for 2012.
“I feel really good and obviously for me the main thing is to win the championship tomorrow night,” the 23-year-old said. “I’m not going to push the boundaries, just plan on doing what I need to do to win this championship. Consistency has been great for me this year, which will be really important heading to America next year. I’m confident and can’t wait to get started.”
Joining Moss in the Pro Lites title race is Queensland local Brenden Harrison, who sits third in the series after crashing out of last weekend’s penultimate round. Harrison still stands a mathematical chance at the title, now 23 points in arrears of Moss.
Bourke teenager Tye Simmonds will be aiming for JDR Motorex KTM’s maiden Super X Open title on the 450 SX-F, entering Ipswich second in the standings, five points behind series leader Jay Marmont.
After winning round one in Melbourne last month, Simmonds has proven he has speed and the required consistency to match, however he will be looking to take control when it counts in the traditional 20-lap main event.
“This weekend is a 20-lap final, so I’m looking forward to that and seeing what we can do to win this title,” Simmonds said. “Hopefully my experience in America earlier this year will pay off. I’ll just focus on what I need to do and see where we end up when it comes to the championship at the end of the day.”
Queensland’s former multiple-time national champion Dan Reardon is seventh in the series entering his home round, while Wollongong rookie Ryan Marmont is three points behind him in eighth overall on the 350 SX-F.
The Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, will wrap up tomorrow evening in Ipswich, Queensland, marking the fifth and final round of the 2011 series on Saturday, 19 November.
