Tough Night in LA For Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda

AMA Supercross – Los Angeles, CA- If you had said at the beginning of the night that Cole Seely and Travis Baker would end up 15th and 20th, respectively, in the main event it would have seemed very unlikely. Cole Seely won the opening round and has been on the leaders pace from the onset and Baker has been consistent and pushing for a breakout ride. But sometimes racing can be brutal.

Cole and Travis both qualified without issue through their heat races. Their lap times were competitive, their Hondas were running perfectly and both of them were ready to fight it out for fifteen laps.

As the 250 main event blasted off it looked like Déjà vu from last year. Cole Seely was leading the charge to turn one and you couldn’t help but remember what Cole did last year with a holeshot. But this time he would get bumped from behind and pushed wide, off the track into a tuff block. He would start this final from the back of the pack. Baker had a decent start but had a scary crash just a few laps into the main and would pull out of the race just one lap later. Seely made a valiant effort to salvage points but a second crash in a slick corner would really slow his progress.

It’s difficult to spin a night like this in a positive light. I guess we could say that both riders finished in the top twenty.

“This was not our best effort,” says team manager Tyler Keefe. “We had a tough night but we will be ready next weekend.”

The Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda team will regroup this week and head north to Oakland for redemption. If you plan on attending be sure to come by and meet the team riders. If you’re really nice to the team driver, Cory, he might even set you up with a Red Bull.

The team’s third rider Christian Craig will miss much of the remaining Supercross series due to a wrist surgery, but will be traveling with the team for support and to participate in autograph sessions.

The Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda riders are wearing SE Pro Corse and SE Pistonbone Racewear, part of our 2012 Collection available at your local retailer.
