CORONA, Calif. – As the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites season shifts from West to East for the next couple of months, the GEICO Honda team is bidding farewell and saluting substitute rider Gavin Faith for his service to the organization.
The GEICO Honda team signed Faith to a short term contract to fill in for injured rider Wil Hahn, who broke his hip during a training accident in January. Hahn is expected to resume his season when the West schedule picks back up in April.
“We asked a lot from Gavin on very short notice,” said team co-owner Rick Zielfelder. “It’s not easy to be thrust onto a big stage like Supercross without the benefit of a lot of training on our equipment. He definitely showed us that he’s a talented rider and we wish him the best as his career moves forward.”
Beginning at the third tour stop in Los Angeles, Faith raced four times under the GEICO Honda banner and, with the support and guidance of the experienced team, managed to work his way up to 18th in the Lites West point standings. His best finish of the four races was a sixth-place result last weekend in San Diego.
“You could see he was becoming more comfortable with our bikes,” crew chief Mike LaRocco said. “We were lucky that Gavin was available. He did a great job for us and our sponsors.”
