Last weekend at round two of the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals in Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Ben Townley crashed hard in early warm-ups and sustained a dislocated hip. The New Zealander has been in the hospital since the crash, and it now looks like he will be undergoing surgery to repair his hip.

Not that there is ever a good time for a serious injury—as Townley knows all too well—but this injury could not have come at a worse one. This race was to be Ben’s last in Australia before heading back to the U.S. to compete in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship aboard a TwoTwo Motosports/Factory Honda.

We are not sure what the future holds for the #101, and there is no time frame as of yet on the recovery time that will be needed for his injury. We wish the very likable Kiwi a quick recovery.

Ben sent out a update on his condition on what has become the injury update hotline in 2012: Twitter.
