Round two of the west coast supercross series blasted off Saturday night in the cold desert of Phoenix, Arizona. The track was a mix of slick, hard pack soil and soft, rutty turns. It made for a very technical course and the Troy Lee Designs riders were up for the challenge.

The first heat saw Cole Seely and Jessy Nelson qualify for the main event with second and fifth place finishes, respectively. Both riders felt good about the way they were riding and were looking forward to the main event. In heat two Christian Craig put in a good ride to finish third. All three team riders had good gate picks for the main event.

The final saw good starts once again for Jessy Nelson and Cole Seely. Craig found himself further back in the pack and fighting for position. Meanwhile, Nelson was doing a great job up in third position with Seely behind him in fourth. The duo held their positions until a charging Ken Roczen came through on his way to the front. Seely followed Ken around Nelson and when the checkers flew Seely and Nelson were in fourth and fifth position. Craig, despite his efforts, could only get up to tenth by the finish.

While Seely was disappointed with the way his night ended up his young teammate was thrilled. “This was way better than last week,” said Jessy Nelson. “My starts have been really good and it’s putting me in good positions for the races. Hopefully I can keep that up and just keep picking up my pace as I ride with these guys. It’s awesome to be up there with them and to be able to learn what they’re doing.”

The Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda team heads back to Angel Stadium in Anaheim for round three this Saturday night.
