The Atlanta Supercross and round number eight of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship Series, is in the books, and both main events were wire-to-wire wins by first-time winners for 2013. In the 450sx class, it was Yoshimura/Suzuzi’s James Stewart breaking the longest Supercross win drought of his career, and in the 250SX class, it was GEICO/Honda’s Wil Hahn with his first-ever Supercross win. For James, it had been a long eleven months since his last Supercross win, but for Wil, it had been a long six-year career working for that moment. Both Wil and James won in similar fashion on Saturday night. Both holeshotted, and both had the championship favorites stalking them for the entire main events. They both held up under the pressure and, with consistent laps from start to finish, brought home their first wins of 2013. For James, the win did not do much for his 2013 Championship campaign—being 74 points down—but Wil’s win put him just two points behind Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson in first.

In the lap time battle, it was once again all about the 450’s in Atlanta. I’m not sure if it’s the tracks out East or the talent out West, but the 250’s have not been able to match the 450 lap-times in the East like they have been in the West. In Atlanta, the major story was the parity in the 450 class. In years past, there were always a few riders that separated themselves from the field in the lap-time department, but not in 2013. Atlanta had 10 riders qualify with fast laps in the 52’s, and in the main event, the top five were separated by less than 4/10th’s of a second. James Stewart had the fastest lap with a 52.502, and the slowest in the top five was Monster/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto—who finished 2nd—with a 52.876. It is incredible how close the top five were when you look at the 450 graph, and it reaffirms the importance of the start.

The 250 class was very close as well with Wilson—who finished 2nd—clocking the fastest lap of a 53.920 and Star Racing/Yamaha’s rookie, Jeremy Martin, clocking the fifth fastest time of 54.577. With the top five in both classes being this close, it was hard for anyone to make up any time from a bad start. Everyone was just waiting for mistakes. Check out our newly improved lap charts below to see how both main events played out plus how the 250SX Class and 450SX Class stacked up against each other.

On the left of each graph, you will notice the lap times and the numbers on the bottom signifying each lap. Below that, we have the top five riders in the order they finished and each lap time from the main event after their name. Also, note that each rider’s fastest lap is shaded in blue at the end of the graph followed by their average lap time. You can run your cursor over the lines to see which rider they signify.
