Today, Steve Matthes reported that Rockstar Energy Racing’s Davi Millsaps will go in for surgery to repair his knee issues following the 2013 Las Vegas Supercross. It’s been well known for some time that Davi injured his knee in the week leading up to the Daytona SX, and he’s been toughing it out ever since. Last week on the PulpMX Show, Millsaps’ trainer, Ezra “Yogi” Lusk said they weren’t sure if Davi would undergo an easy knee clean-up surgery—that would only take him out for a few weeks—or a full-on knee repair—that could take him out of most or all the outdoors. It now sounds like they’ve chosen the latter. We wish the reborn 450 superstar all the luck in the world and hope to see the 2013 version of Millsaps back in ’14.

As far as a replacement rider goes, the Rockstar Energy Racing team looks to be staying in-house with their replacement. We talked to Ryan Sipes today, and he confirmed that he will be jumping on the 450, and I don’t think there’s a better fit. The Kentucky kid contested the 450 AMA Motocross Championship back in 2010 and did incredibly well—finishing 8th overall in the points and as high as 4th in a moto. Ryan is 28 years old and has made it clear he will be moving up in ’14 no matter what, so this is just what he needed. Check back here next week to read our interview with Ryan.
