Chad Reed went down hard on the last lap of the 2014 San Diego SX while running 4th and trying to pass Ken Roczen for 3rd. Early word was that Reed is okay, but was spitting up blood. He was transported by ambulance to the local hospital from the race for more observation and spent Saturday night there. While in the hospital, Chad was told he has three broken bones: collarbone, scapula and T1 vertebrae. Chad and his wife, Ellie, later posted on Instagram and Twitter that next weekend’s Dallas SX is surprisingly still in the plans for the Discount Tire Racing rider.

Hopefully, the tough Australian is okay and is able to suit up next weekend in Dallas, but it seems like a gnarly decision to make. With the crash, and his 12th place finish, the #22 is still 3rd in the 450SX Championship. You can watch video of Reed’s San Diego SX crash by clicking here>>>

Chad Reed’s Instagram Post

“So not the news I wanted 3 broken bones 1) scapula 2) collarbone 3) T1 Explains the pain I guess.. Sometimes things don’t make sense it’s that love hate relationship you have with racing But every Saturday night they drop the gate. In 6 days I plan to be there! Thanks for all the preyers hope to make y’all proud 22 supporters”

Ellie Reed’s Instagram Post

“3 broken bones. Scapula , collarbone & T1. @crtwotwo has a pain threshold that exceeds any normal rate but Who knows how the weekend will be. Racing at this level is tough on a healthy body. Unfortunately this is something he has experienced multiple times in his career. It’s far from pretty and watching ur husband cry in pain is something I don’t advise. But his heart would hurt worse by quitting. The kids and I will meet him in Dallas on Friday and we aim to stay in this fight. Our path is never the easy one but we will never give up. #22 #therapyweek #nevergiveup

  22. Nice photo! Speedy appears to be feeling the effects of some major pain killers ….

  23. Obviously we won’t be seeing Chad Reed racing again. Looks like a career ended by a lapper. Thanks Nick Way! Broken T1 is a bad one.

Chad reed is awesome and a true inspiration to all of us I know he will come back just like in 2012

    • According to Chad and his wife he will possibly be dealing with the pain and racing Dallas. Also, what was Wey supposed to do in that situation? He was racing his own race and completely committed to the whoops as well. While I know a lot of people like to blame lappers for everything, Wey is an experienced, respected veteran and he did nothing wrong in this situation. SX is dangerous and IMO this was 100% a racing deal.

  30. Z shoulder is totally synergistic, dynamic work of art, but we use our finger to excavate the roost dirt from our nose. Yike’s, will the yuppie viewer’s be able to ACCEPT this, or anything less. “G.F.I.”.

Hey Chad was watching live in here in New Zealand. Gutted when you went down.Your a tough dude I will give you that. you are riding so well and think you could win the championship again. You will know if its the right thing to ride in Dallas take care, heal fast Cheers

If some of you so called fans have seen what Ive seen this so called hero do you may have a change of heart. I wont get into all the 2 year old behavior CR does. But one of many that sticks out is Daytona SX few years back, muddy/rainy. His bike broke down 2nd to last lap. Throws the bike down and then stomps off track toward mechanic, flips him off and goes and cries like he always does when things don’t go HIS way! Boohoo!! Attitude is everything and yours sucks!! That’s why he has twotwo race team, nobody wants to sign him! Go back to Austria or wherever you came from!

  33. This is a A.C. seperation and I been strugglng with dumbass P.T. people to heel my A.C., and they con’t to P.T. me for a R

Thiz iz a A.C. seperaton all us M.X. addicts have some of this, but this is a dooo’zee. My dumbass P.T. con’t to P.T. me for the R.C. aftermath, but this heel is whole different animal. You my friend will be such a animal now ! G.F.I. .

    .

  34. if he truly has three busted bones….monster energy should be sued for letting him race…and Chad should not receive anything out of the law suit either….and as exited and tempted as I,am to see him race….I know that if I truly loved him….I would suggest he rest his body for some time to heal up….that way the chances of him walking down the street holding his children’s hands are high…instead of being pushed down the street on a wheel chair by Ellie ( the one who would also ‘feel’ guilty) Kids in the world are happy with just one bowl of rice a day…look what us wise people will do for 250,000….selah. My heart and the little selfish evil in me…wants to see you ride…..but the shitty truth is….I really don’t think you should. You have done enough! I’m surprised I don’t read many others saying the same….perhaps I’m the only wrong one in the world.
