After trying to qualify in Dallas and pulling out due to too much pain, Discount Tire Racing’s Chad Reed tweeted out that he would miss at least six rounds to get his shoulder surgically fixed and let his other injuries heal. With a list of injuries that included a broken collarbone, fractured scapula and fractured T1, it definitely seemed like the logical thing to do. It had to be a bitter pill to swallow for the former two-time 450SX Champion who looked as fit and fast as ever in 2014. The #22 surprised us all by winning two rounds out of the first five rounds and only trailing Monster/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto by two points. Chad’s 2014 was very reminiscent to his 2012 and, unfortunately, ended in similar fashion.

Chad Reed at hospital for shoulder surgery

This week, things have been pretty quiet out of the Discount Tire Racing camp, but Chad did tweet out a picture from the hospital and has been hinting toward what many of us suspect: no racing until the 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Glen Helen. At this point, it makes sense for the tough Australian to heal up and then prepare for a run at winning his second 450 motocross Championship in ’14. In the end, it was an awesome display of grit and determination from Reedy during the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross season and another legendary chapter in his already Hall of Fame career. Hopefully he can get healed up and do it again at the outdoor nationals, but for now, it looks like Dean Wilson will be filling in for Chad on the Discount Tire Racing 450.

We heard rumors about a possible fill-in, but never thought of Deano. Today, though, Dean Wilson sent out an Instagram photo of him testing on Chad Reed’s bike. It looks like it’s a done deal, and we hear that the Indianapolis SX will be Deano’s first race on the 450.

Update: Minutes after posting this, Discount Tire Racing put out a press release confirming that Reed will miss the remained of supercross and that Dean Wilson will be filling in. Read PR Here>>>
