At the 2014 Indianapolis Supercross, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Martin Davalos was once again the fastest man in the 250SX class, but on a technical track like we saw in Indy on Saturday night, keeping it on two wheels is the most important factor. Unfortunately for Martin, he was not able to keep it on two wheels in Indianapolis, but it’s hard to blame the Ecuadorian when it’s a sheet of plywood that put him on his head.

With the dirt that was brought into Lucas Oil Stadium having frozen and thawed from having been stored outside, the soil was super soft, and with super soft soil comes deep ruts. With deep ruts comes exposed plywood. Trying to get traction on plywood with a dirt bike is like trying to get traction in an ice rink—it’s not going to happen. Davalos led the first six laps of the main event, but when his rear wheel hit the plywood, the #31 went sideways and down. Martin remounted in third and, after passing his way back up to second, tried to mount a charge on his teammate Adam Cianciarulo, but Adam&mdah;who also crashed on lap eight—had built up too much of a lead. In the end, Martin crossed the line in second and heads to round four in Daytona being five points behind Cianciarulo.

After the race, MotoXAddicts’ Chase Yocom caught up to Martin to talk about his Indianapolis SX. Hit play below to hear what Martin had to say.
