The 2014 Detroit Supercross and round number eleven of the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross series saw two riders grabbing their series leading third wins on the season. In the 450SX Class, it was Yoshimura/Suzuki’s James Stewart passing the MuscleMilk/Honda fill-in, Cole Seely, on lap two and checking out for his third win of the year. With his third win of ’14, he ties Monster/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto for the season win total, but more importantly, it was Stewart’s 48th career main event win—moving him into a tie with Ricky Carmichael for second most career wins in the history of the sport. This is a huge milestone for the former two-time 450SX Champion and hopefully helped him forget he’s currently forty-nine points behind Villopoto for the 2014 450SX Championship. Stewart was joined on the Detroit podium by Villopoto and Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey.

In the 250SX main event, Monster/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Martin Davalos grabbed the early lead but, for the third time in 2014, he crashed and handed the lead to his teammate Adam Cianciarulo. Martin  remounted in third but crashed a second time—finishing 6th and giving up a lot of points in the Championship. Once in the lead, Cianciarulo was kept honest for all fifteen laps by GEICO/Honda’s Justin Bogle. The #32 Honda finally got the start he needed to run with the Pro Circuit boys, and despite never being more than 1-2 seconds behind Adam, he was never able to make a move for the lead. At the flag, it was Cianciarulo, Bogle and Monster/PC/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett scoring podium finishes in Detroit.

In the lap time battle, it was the top-two 450SX riders, Stewart (55.679) and Villopoto (55.979), with the only laps under the 56-second mark. On the tight, dry and extremely slick Detroit circuit it was all about flow, and that was not easy to come by. As you’ll notice in the lap charts below, consistency was rarely accomplished inside Ford Field. In the 250SX class, it was once again Davalos (56.312) with the most raw speed, but it was the third fastest rider, Cianciarulo (56.830), with the most consistent laps.
