While we all have a passion for the sport of motocross, this is the one aspect we hate reporting: the death of a racer. At the Ironman Raceway Regional Championship in Crawfordsville, Indiana last Sunday, June 1st, amateur racer Austin Mincey crashed, and earlier today, fourteen year old Austin died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Reporting these types of accidents is the toughest part of reporting motocross and supercross news, and our hearts go out to Austin’s friends and family. We cannot imagine what they are going through today. Director of MX Sports (the promotion group for the race), Tim Cotter, said “Everyone in the MX Sports family is broken hearted by this tragic news. In motocross racing we are one big family and nothing saddens us more than a tragedy like this. We ask that everyone think of Austin, his family and his friends. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers as they will be in ours. Godspeed, Austin.”

It was the first race at the newly built Ironman MX motocross track and a very sad beginning to what many are calling a world class facility. The Ironman MX facility will play host to the recently announced Indiana National on August 16, 2014.

If you would like to help the Mincey family in this very sad time, you can make a donation by clicking here. Also, we will post funeral arrangements when we hear more, but we do know it will take place here.
