Ryan Dungey has been a different person in 2015. When is the last time you saw Ryan celebrate after a win? Photo by: Hoppenworld

The 2015 Arlington Supercross and round seven of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, is in the history books, and it was the Red Bull/KTM team stealing the show in both classes. In the premiere class, Ryan Dungey was dominant en-route to his second win of 2015, and his teammate Marvin Musquin recorded the first win of the year in the 2015 Eastern Regional 250SX Championship.

In the 450SX class, Dungey got to the front early and was never challenged for the win. From the drop of the gate, the man they call “The Diesel” was untouchable, and with the main event win, he extended his lead in the 450SX Championship to twelve over RCH/Soaring Eagle/Suzuki’s Ken Roczen. With Dungey out front early, Kenny tried to catch the #5, but in the end, Dungey was just too fast and too consistent for the German to close the gap. Joining Dungey and Roczen on the podium once again was Honda Racing’s Trey Canard. The trio have now shared the podium in the last two events, and with them being 1-2-3 in the Championship, it is quickly beginning to look like a three horse race to the title.

In the 250SX class, it was Musquin landing the first punch in the Eastern Regional 250SX Championship. With the Arlington SX marking the beginning of a 250SX East, many wondered who would be the man. Well, after seeing the Frenchman on the #25 KTM completely dominating the day qualifying sessions, dominating the fastest heat race and running away from the 2014 Eastern Regional Champ, GEICO/Honda’s Justin Bogle, in the main event, we may have found him. This week, because of a red flag and a staggered restart at the halfway mark, Bogle had two shots at the former MX2 World Champion, but both times Musquin simply put the hammer down and left him. As we know from the past, anything can happen, but as it sits now, Musquin looks like the man to beat out East. Joining the KTM and Honda rider on the podium was Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy. Joey was solid in third, and considering this was only the tenth supercross of his young career, he could have more to bring to the table as the series moves on.

In the Arlington SX lap time battle, it was Ryan Dungey (51.156) recording the fastest lap while trying to runaway for his second win of the year. In the fifteen laps of the main event, “The Diesel” ran twelve lap-times under the 52-second mark, and it was that machine-like consistency that broke Roczen’s spirit in Texas. It’s amazing enough that Ryan ran a 51.156, but his average lap-time on the chewed up Texas clay of 52.104 was absolutely mind blowing. The second fastest time was turned in by Roczen (51.336) and the third fastest lap (51.621) was clocked by the rider that may be the surprise of the 450SX season: Yoshimura/Suzuki’s Blake Baggett. Blake used that speed to log the best finish of his rookie season in fourth.

The fastest 250SX rider on the night was laid down by the man that dominated everything in Arlington: Marvin Musquin (51.826). The #25 was the fifth fastest rider of the night if you combine the 450SX. While Marvin was dominant overall on the night, the defending Champ, Bogle, was just a tick off with the second fastest lap of 52.105. With Bogle only three tenths off of Musquin, and Savatgy’s time (52.362) not far behind that, there is still some hope that we will see the Frenchman challenged in later rounds. Hopefully they get that consistency thing figured out and close the gap as the series moves on.
