The 2015 Atlanta 1 Supercross and round eight of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, put two more names in the record books as winners in the 2015 season. With Discount Tire Racing/Kawasaki’s Chad Reed winning the 450SX main event and Star Racing/Yamalube/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin winning the 250SX class, the total number of different winners in 2015 was pushed up to ten—that’s five different 450SX winners and five different 250SX winners in just eight rounds of action.

In the 450SX class, Reedy got the holeshot and went wire-to-wire for the 44th 450SX main event win of his Hall of Fame career. It was an impressive ride for the veteran that’s been winning races since 2003 and a reminder to the competition that he’s nowhere near done. Behind the #22, the 450SX Championship points leader, Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey, crossed the line second with Honda Racing’s Trey Canard filling the third spot on the podium. For Ryan, the 2nd place finish boosted his points lead from twelve over the #94 to twenty-five over the #41 after RCH/Suzuki’s Ken Roczen—second in the points heading into Atlanta—crashed hard and finished 18th.

In the 250SX class, it was Martin coming from behind, catching and passing every Eastern Regional 250SX Championship contender on his way to his first win of the year. One by one Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin, Rockstar/Husqvarna’s Martin Davalos and the defending Champ, GEICO/Honda’s Justin Bogle, all battled and lost versus the #6 on Saturday night in Atlanta. It was a huge shot of confidence in the arm for the 2014 AMA 250 National Motocross Champion who has struggled in SX in the first two years of his career. In the end, Martin was joined on the podium by Musquin in second—who retained the red plate for round 3—and Bogle in third.

In the Atlanta 1 SX lap time battle, it was Trey Canard (48.811) clocking the fastest lap but not by much. On the super-technical Atlanta circuit, there was nothing between the top-three times. We promise this is the last time we will write anything is a surprise from JGR/Yamaha’s Weston Peick, but the fact that he had the second fastest time (48.864) blew us away. Weston was incredibly fast, but his recent injuries and time away from racing prevented him from better than a fifth place finish. With speed like that, we’re done being surprised. Not even a win will make us type the word surprise next to his name from here on. Just a tick off of Weston with the third fastest lap (48.886) was the 2015 Atlanta 1 SX winner, Chad Reed.

The fastest 250SX rider on the night was Jeremy Martin (50.284). After starting mid pack, Jeremy used that speed to catch and pass the field. While Musquin was close on speed (50.413), mistake cost the #25 his second win of the year. The third fastest lap (50.625) was turned in by the Ecuadorian Martin Davalos. Davalos got the holeshot and tried sprinting away, but it looks like, for the moment, Martin, Musquin and Bogle have the #47 covered in the fitness department. Davalos is just coming back from a very long injury layoff so we expect his fitness to eventually catch up to his speed.
