The 2015 Atlanta 2 Supercross and round nine of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship series, was the second Red Bull/KTM sweep out of three rounds raced in the East. In the 450SX class, Ryan Dungey was dominant from qualifying through the main event, and his teammate in the 250SX class, Marvin Musquin, did the same. Both qualified first early in the day, carried that speed and momentum into main event wins and extended their leads in their respective Championships.

In the 450SX class, it was last week’s winner, Discount Tire Racing/Kawasaki’s Chad Reed, getting the holeshot, but after losing a battle with JGR/Yamaha’s Weston Peick, the #22 crashed and finished seventh. After leading the first six laps, Peick went backwards, also crashed and finished eighth. Getting around Reed while he was on the ground and scrubbing past Peick for the lead was “The Diesel.” Dungey grabbed the lead on lap seven and checked out to a comfortable lead and his third win of the year. Joining the #5 on the podium was GEICO/Honda’s Eli Tomac and Honda Racing’s Trey Canard. Both looked to have the pace of Dungey early on, but neither could keep the orange bike in sight for twenty-laps.

In the 250SX class, it was Musquin grabbing the holeshot and going wire-to-wire for his second win of the year. His win extended his Eastern Regional 250SX Championship points lead to ten over Star Racing/Yamaha’s Jeremy Martin. Jeremy got a fifth place start in Atlanta, but by the time he battled past Jimmy Decotis and Arnaud Tonus, the #25 was gone. Finishing third behind Jeremy and keeping his perfect podium record for the year intact was GEICO/Honda’s Justin Bogle. While Bogle’s been consistently on the box with a 2-3-3 scorecard, he is still thirteen points behind the Frenchman, whose scorecard reads a near perfect 1-2-1.

In the Atlanta 1 SX lap time battle, it was Trey Canard (54.505) clocking the fastest lap. On the slick Atlanta circuit, Trey clocked the fastest lap on lap eight after passing Peick for second and trying to reel in Dungey. Unfortunately for Trey, a mistake on lap ten, combined with Tomac running the third fastest lap (55.032) on lap ten, allowed the #3 to catch and eventually pass him for second. The second fastest lap of the night (54.914) was laid down by Dungey, but it was his aggression getting to the front and his average lap time (55.929) that allowed him to get away from the Hondas.

The fastest 250SX time on the night (56.194) was clocked by Marvin Musquin. After ripping the holeshot, Marvin ran 56-second laps through lap nine and built himself a sizable gap. The second (56.319) and third (56.323) fastest laps were nearly identical and turned in appropriately by the second and third place finishers: Martin and Bogle.
