The 2015 FMF Glen Helen National and the second round of the 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship answered more of our questions and solidified two riders’ grips on the red plates. In the 450MX class, GEICO/Honda’s Eli Tomac continued to outclass the field with his third and fourth-straight moto wins of the year, and Red Bull/KTM’s Marvin Musquin—who shared the red plate after round one—took sole possession of it in the 250MX class with a 1-1 of his own. The #3 and the #25 will both head into Thunder Valley next weekend with nineteen-point leads in their respective Championships.

In the fastest lap time battle at round two, it was once again all about the Colorado kid on his way to another 1-1. Tomac had the fastest lap in moto one (2:21.120) and, surprising, nearly matched it on the very gnarly moto two (2:21.519) Glen Helen circuit. The second fastest lap (2:21.821) from the day’s races came from the defending 450MX Champion Ken Roczen and was amazingly laid down in the final moto of the day. With the German’s pre-season back injury, Hangtown was rough, but Kenny looks to be getting back up to speed sooner rather than later. His 8-3 performance for 4th overall was impressive, especially after crashing and starting moto one dead last.

The third (2:22.165) and fourth (2:23.860) fastest laps in the 450MX class were clocked by Red Bull/KTM’s Ryan Dungey and JGRMX/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia in moto one. After leading the first seven laps of moto 1, bike problems pushed Ryan back to 6th, and a 6-2 on the day gave him 3rd overall. Barcia used the fourth fastest lap to score a 2nd in moto one, and a 4-2 on the day scored him his first ever podium since switching to the Yamaha.

In the 250MX class, it was all KTM in the top three overall podium positions and with the top three fastest laps on the day. While it was Musquin scoring the 1-1, it was Red Bull/KTM’s Justin Hill logging the fastest 250MX lap (2:23.242) of the day en route to his first-ever 250MX overall podium finish. Justin used that speed to finish the day with a 2-5 for 2nd overall after two mediocre starts. The second (2:23.553) and third (2:23.804) fastest laps on the day were cranked out by Musquin and Troy Lee Designs/KTM’s Jessy Nelson. Musquin ran away for two dominant wins by the end of each moto, but Nelson held the #25 off for half of the opening moto. Nelson ended his round two with a 4-4 for third overall and capped off a brilliant day for the Austrian bike maker. Over the last few years KTM has been setting one new results milestone after another, and Saturday marked the first time they have ever swept a podium in any class, indoors or outdoors, in America.
